Research

Within the Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at UCSF, we provide expert care for our patients, dealing with diverse problems from craniofacial anomalies and cleft lip and palate to complex wounds from tumors and trauma, while we continue our investigations into important research such as tissue regeneration.

The goal is to expand our ability to provide state-of-the-art care and service for our patients while we redouble our efforts into research that will lead to new and better treatment options. As the only practice area dealing with the whole body ("the skin and its contents"), the innovative research our faculty is pursuing could have important implications for countless other conditions. Our surgeons and investigators are leaders in the field in improving clinical outcomes through the advancement of science, translating novel research into effective therapies for the benefit of our patients.

Jason H. Pomerantz, M.D. is the latest member to join the Division faculty. He is excited to be part of a culture where physician-scientists are continually seeking the next medical breakthrough. A talented craniofacial surgeon, he is also an accomplished basic scientist; his research is exploring ways to improve and find new methods of addressing problems that cannot be fixed surgically, such as amputations and defects where surgical intervention does not yield a perfect outcome.
